About Me

I am a maker at heart. My goal is create beautiful objects that people can touch and use in their everyday life.

Jon Whitney Pottery, now in its 11th year, is located in the country setting of Mason, Michigan. Developed through my experience growing up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan , I work with many types of firing using white stoneware to create my pieces.  I create functional pottery for everyday use.  All of the work is food-safe and can be used in the dishwasher or microwave.

I received a B.F.A. from Eastern Michigan University and moved directly into the world of ceramics.  Being a vessel-maker for a historic arts and crafts pottery taught me to look at the idea of making functional pottery for a living more seriously. 

In the recent years I have moved from doing art fairs as my main source of income into working directly with galleries and local establishments to present my work to the public.
